Charity ride tackles some of the best hill climbs in Bowland

Cyclists taking part in the annual Ribble Valley Ride

ENTRIES for the 2025 edition of the Ribble Valley Ride close in just two weeks with places for the popular cyclosportive capped at 500. Now in its 10th anniversary year, the Ribble Valley Ride is aiming to raise £10,000 for local charities in 2025.

Again sponsored by Ribble Cycles, this year’s ride incorporates two brand new routes: the easy family-friendly 25-mile route, a more challenging 50-mile route and a demanding 70-mile route taking in some of the best hill climbs in the Ribble Valley and Forest of Bowland.

More than 300 cyclists from across the northwest took part in last year’s Ribble Valley Ride, raising more than £5,500 which was shared between Rosemere Cancer Foundation, Ribble Valley First Aiders and Rotary Great Britain & Ireland.

Thanks to the generous support of Preston-based Ribble Cycles, this year’s event will include a prize fund of £3,000, with all participants entered into a prize draw to win some fantastic Ribble products.

All three routes will be signed and marshalled, with regular food and hydration stops along the way. Technical back-up is also available and food and drinks are included in the entry fees.

Organised by the Rotary Clubs of Accrington and Clitheroe, this year’s ride has again received generous backing from a number of local sponsors, including Heidelberg Materials (formerly Hanson Cement) and Rufus Carr.

Chip timing and full classified results will be available to all riders, although the ride is non-competitive and if cyclists wish to shorten (or lengthen) their ride, then they have ample opportunity to do so.

All registered entrants who participate in the event on the day will be entered into a prize draw to win one of three prizes (one for each distance) provided by Ribble.

Demand for places is expected to be high this year. Entries will close on Thursday, June 6 or whenever the 500 places have sold out.
