Walks for all abilities in Bowland this summer

The Forest of Bowland team and and partner organisations are hosting a series of guided walks for all abilities in the National Landscape this summer.
Among the options on offer are short family-friendly walks, guided tramper treks for people with restricted mobility, river walks, geology walks and canal walks. Many of the events are affordably priced or free but booking is usually required to secure a place. Here’s our pick of the best guided walks in Bowland this summer:
GEOLOGY WALK
Wednesday 20th August, 10am – 12noon
Trough of Bowland
Join us in the Trough of Bowland for a closer look at the geology which underpins this well-known part of the National Landscape.
We may only be walking a short distance, but we’ll be stepping back in time millions of years…..
We’ll also get the opportunity to look amongst the old mine waste for samples of the minerals worked there in decades past – plus a chance to search for fossils in the disused quarries.
Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. (There will be some uneven walking and a moderate slope on this walk of just over 1 mile.) Cost £5.
THE SECRET WORLD OF RIVERS
Thursday 21st August, 10am – 12noon or 1pm – 3pm
Scorton
Underneath the surface of the water is a secret world of wildlife waiting to be explored.
Join Wyre Rivers Trust on this exciting adventure of discovery.
Suitable for ages 5 years and above. (All under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.)

GARSTANG & THE LANCASTER CANAL TRAMPER TREK AND RAMBLE
Wednesday 13th August, 10:30am – 2:30pm
Garstang
Join Wyre Coast & Countryside rangers for a ramble and all-terrain Tramper trek around the countryside close to Garstang, and discover its wildlife and landscape.
This five mile route is a stile-free, with gentle slopes and has been graded “moderate”. Cost: £4
Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult, and there is a minimum age for use of the Tramper.
