Bentham’s very own Banksy has produced a stunning image of a kingfisher on the Main Street in the heart of the town.

Artist Rhys Midge was inspired to produced the artwork by the brightly covered birds which flit up and down the River Wenning which flows through the town.

The artwork was commissioned via the Bentham Boost Programme, designed to create a bit of a ‘buzz’ around the town centre of the bustling market town – which is at the heart of the local farming community. The mural adorns a wall next to Bentham Club on the Main Street.

The Bentham Business Boost Programme was funded by the Bentham Hub and the North Yorkshire UK Shared Prosperity Fund, with the goal of creating a lasting impact in the town centre by bringing businesses closer together and fostering greater collaboration and networking.

The brief to the artists was simple: ‘colour’.

“As a keen bird enthusiast myself, Britain’s most colourful bird seemed the obvious choice,” said Rhys. “Kingfishers can be seen regularly on our riverside and placing the kingfisher on the wall enables people to stand across the road and see it in full scale without any obstruction.”
