Challan Hall

Challan Hall is conveniently situated in the heart of the Arnside and Silverdale National Landscape – only a short distance from the Southern Lake District.

This cosy Bed and Breakfast enjoys a wonderful position in an unspoilt area, and overlooks the ‘original’ Lake Hawes Water.

The garden backs onto the Gait Barrows Nature Reserve (home to Lady Slipper Orchids and other rare flora) and just down the road is RSPB Leighton Moss, one of the popular venues for BBC TV’s Spring and Autumn Watch.

Sit on the patio and watch Marsh Harriers and a myriad other birds on a bright and sunny day with a pot of tea and hot scones.

From a gentle stroll along the banks of the River Ribble to the challenge of the 24 mile Three Peaks walk and everything in between.

Shireburn Arms

Located in the picturesque village of Hurst Green, The Shireburn Arms is a 17th Century hostelry offering stunning views, beautiful accommodation and locally produced food. Original architectural features cosy, up to date contemporary fittings and fabrics to create a unique yet homely feel.

You’ll find a relaxed, informal atmosphere in which to enjoy beautifully prepared food. Open fireplaces and cosy corners. A meal at The Shireburn Arms is both comfortingly familiar and yet still a wonderfully special experience.

Our head chef has crafted a menu that pays homage to the region’s produce, as well as his talents, and features local specialities using the freshest ingredients. Stirk House Hotel

A luxurious large hotel in a rural setting in the shadow of Pendle Hill making it a convenient base from which to explore the Forest of Bowland, Ribble Valley and Yorkshire Dales.

The original Stirk House was built using stone from the nearby Sawley Abbey following the dissolution of the monasteries.

Converted to a hotel in the 1930s, it has has been welcoming guests ever since. Set in 22 acres of grounds with 33 guest rooms, Stirk House is conveniently located close to both the A59 and A65 main roads, which skirt the southern and eastern fringes of the Forest of Bowland.

With country walks direct from the hotel door and a fully licensed restaurant showcasing dishes which draw inspiration from produce raised in the surrounding countryside, Stirk House is an excellent base from which to explore the Forest of Bowland on foot or by bike.

The Assheton Arms

The Assheton Arms is perched on a hill looking over the picture postcard village of Downham in Lancashire’s beautiful Forest of Bowland. This renowned country inn is open all day every day during the summer months for drinks, light snacks, fine dining and elegant accommodation.

Expect a warm welcome from the friendly staff at this much-loved local institution which has all the features you’d expect from a traditional country inn: flagstone floors, exposed beams, cosy nooks and crannies hearty food and well-kept cask ales.

The extensive menu caters to all tastes – from sandwiches and light snacks to fine dining featuring the very best local Lancashire produce.

The views from the sunny, south-facing terrace across the rooftops of Downham across the verdant pastureland to the imposing outline of Pendle – the most iconic hill in Lancashire. A short, but challenging walk takes you to the summit of this famous hill in around 90 minutes.

And for those who find themselves wanting to linger longer, ‘The Ash’ has 12 elegant and individually styled bedrooms – perfect for an indulgent short break or impromptu night away.

The Coach and Horses

The Coach and Horses is a traditional coaching inn, set in the idyllic village of Bolton by Bowland in the heart of the Ribble Valley.

Newly restored to its original glory, this Grade II listed building includes a cosy bar and elegant restaurant plus an onsite micro brewery.

Let our chef take your taste buds on a journey with new and exciting dishes served alongside pub classics done right. The menu is varied, using ingredients of the season, locally sourced where possible.

We have seven beautifully created bedrooms, each bedroom is unique, decorated in a style befitting a traditional coaching inn.

The Coach and Horses is ideally located for exploration of the Forest of Bowland, Pendle Hill and Gisburn Forest, with miles of public footpaths on it’s doorstep.

The Fleece Inn

If you choose to venture a little further afield, you could take a scenic drive (just over 20 miles) and immerse yourself in the rolling hills and tranquil valleys of The Yorkshire Dales National Park, or head just 30 minutes north and you’ll be touching the southern edge of Cumbria’s wonderful Lake District.

Located beside an ancient stone bridge over a babbling brook at the heart of the picture postcard village of Waddington, the Waddington Arms is the hub of this vibrant little community. It’s the perfect place to eat, drink, relax and catch up with friends. Come rain or shine, the ‘Waddy’ is the ideal venue for celebrations large and small. Sit outside in the sunshine on the terrace or beer garden or cosy up inside in front of a roaring wood fire.

Our varied menus are available for lunch and dinner every day and feature everything from light bites to spectacular Sunday roasts with all the trimmings. Six beautiful bedrooms provide a cosy base for exploring the Ribble Valley, Forest of Bowland, Yorkshire Dales and even the Lake District – all of which are within easy reach.
